"We hear sounds from everywhere, without ever having to focus. Sounds come from "above", from "below", from in  'front' of us, from "behind" us, from our "right", from our "left" (McLuhan).

Creating this music piece was really fun. I've never made a beat before, but this was a fun first time creating a beat. Originally, I had an idea to put a poetry piece on top of whatever I was making. But once I actually started making the piece in garage band, I wanted to just explore with the different sounds that they had on their apple loops. Then I just started adding different loops to try to make something cool. Which was really fun, it amazed me to see how complicated the process is and it was complicated for me with pre-made sound loops. It made me think about actual producers who create beats from scratch. But all in all making the beat was fun!

Something is happening

" He cannot go along with currents and trends. A strange bond often exists among antisocial types in their power to see environments as they really are" (McLuhan 88). This quote inspired this presentation because I used to be a really social person and extremely outgoing, but somewhere along the line I changed. Now I am extremely introverted I wouldn't say antisocial, but I'm only social when it's necessary. So, for this assignment I used trees as the medium because they represent a connection to nature that isn't really provided through social interactions. There are so many benefits to connecting to trees, but mainly they are a calming force in my life. Sitting with trees and even meditating with them allows me to slow down in such a fast-paced society. The picture featured above is a tree on campus that I sit with often, I gave her the name serenity. In connecting with her so far, I have been able to grow closer to myself, often using introspection to reflect on different things that happen in my life. While also learning about and watching the nature that is around her.

Experimental video

Originally when I thought about a project centered around space and time, I thought the starts and the moon would be a perfect correlation but on the actual night I had time to record the sky was really cloudy. So, I had to come up with another idea and this one is centered around a bouquet of flowers that I got for free when walking home from Starbucks after doing my homework. I had no idea what I was going to do with them originally but as I was walking around campus, I had an idea of almost like a modernized Adam and Eve story. Where the figures are Adam and Eve, and the flowers represent an Eden almost. But instead of the story being centered around Eve eating an apple that the serpent convinced her to eat (we all know what it really was), but instead of that it's a representation of a strong woman standing tall in the midst of Eden and the man next to her falls. It's kind of like a feminist twist on that story in a way. This was inspired by McLuhan's quote " The past went that-a-way when faced with a totally new situation, we tend to attach ourselves to the objects, to the flavor of the most recent past" (74), which makes me wonder how different would the creation story if Eve stood tall in the garden, regardless of any man or serpent you know?
