Entire class wrap up

"We employ visual and spatial metaphors for a great many day expression. We insist on employing visual metaphors even when we refer purely to psychological states."
I am very much the type of person that has to see it in to believe it and I didn't                                     think I would enjoy this class as much as I did. Learning how to use different mediums.
and different apps to create these projects was really fun.

Prints: The entire process of making the prints was pretty fun, from shooting the pictures to learning how to print them on the inkjet printer. It was really exciting to try photography for the first time and I really enjoyed taking pictures of nature. It was fun stepping outside of my comfort zone finding something that I would definitely pick up again. It was really different learning how to print out the pictures on the inkjet printer, learning the right sizes and correct colors that I wanted.

Exhibition: The exhibition was really fun; I wasn't able to go on the first day it opened but I was able to visit on the second day and all of our pictures looked really nice. There were so many different scenes that were captured in our art gallery, and it was nice to understand the inspiration behind most of the pictures.

Book: The book was really difficult to make, I wasn't sure what I wanted to call it and how I wanted it to look but, in the end, I think it turned out pretty good. It was cute to see all the trees in a book that I made with the different quotes on the pages. Actually putting the book together and deciding what I wanted the background to look like was an extremely tedious process but it turned out really fire so I'm not mad at it.

But yeah overall the class was great and if I had another term at this school I would definitely take the next course that is offered!

" I-I hardly know sir just as a present- at least I know who I was when I got up this morning, but I think I must have changed several times since then."
This final project was challenging to make but worth it in the end. I was having a lot of trouble getting the right camera, so I ended up having to use my phone for most of the video. But it was fun to record the things that happen in life, and it was really funny to notice how dramatic I am. When I originally started this project, I really wanted to make one of those aesthetically pleasing type of videos, but honestly, I think it was nice to record life as natural as it comes without making it look like it's picture perfect. I feel like we kind of get lost in the idea that life should look a certain way. Which kind of relates to the quote, how quickly things can shape who we are and how we perceive ourselves. Which ultimately changes the things what we want out of life. The day we decided to edit it took us at least 6 hours to make the video how we wanted it to look, which was a very long and tedious process, but it was fun to zone in and create a video.

Everything Is Music Assignment

"We hear sounds from everywhere, without ever having to focus. Sounds come from "above", from "below", from in  'front' of us, from "behind" us, from our "right", from our "left" (McLuhan).

Creating this music piece was really fun. I've never made a beat before, but this was a fun first time creating a beat. Originally, I had an idea to put a poetry piece on top of whatever I was making. But once I actually started making the piece in garage band, I wanted to just explore with the different sounds that they had on their apple loops. Then I just started adding different loops to try to make something cool. Which was really fun, it amazed me to see how complicated the process is and it was complicated for me with pre-made sound loops. It made me think about actual producers who create beats from scratch. But all in all making the beat was fun!

Something is happening

" He cannot go along with currents and trends. A strange bond often exists among antisocial types in their power to see environments as they really are" (McLuhan 88). This quote inspired this presentation because I used to be a really social person and extremely outgoing, but somewhere along the line I changed. Now I am extremely introverted I wouldn't say antisocial, but I'm only social when it's necessary. So, for this assignment I used trees as the medium because they represent a connection to nature that isn't really provided through social interactions. There are so many benefits to connecting to trees, but mainly they are a calming force in my life. Sitting with trees and even meditating with them allows me to slow down in such a fast-paced society. The picture featured above is a tree on campus that I sit with often, I gave her the name serenity. In connecting with her so far, I have been able to grow closer to myself, often using introspection to reflect on different things that happen in my life. While also learning about and watching the nature that is around her.

Experimental video

Originally when I thought about a project centered around space and time, I thought the starts and the moon would be a perfect correlation but on the actual night I had time to record the sky was really cloudy. So, I had to come up with another idea and this one is centered around a bouquet of flowers that I got for free when walking home from Starbucks after doing my homework. I had no idea what I was going to do with them originally but as I was walking around campus, I had an idea of almost like a modernized Adam and Eve story. Where the figures are Adam and Eve, and the flowers represent an Eden almost. But instead of the story being centered around Eve eating an apple that the serpent convinced her to eat (we all know what it really was), but instead of that it's a representation of a strong woman standing tall in the midst of Eden and the man next to her falls. It's kind of like a feminist twist on that story in a way. This was inspired by McLuhan's quote " The past went that-a-way when faced with a totally new situation, we tend to attach ourselves to the objects, to the flavor of the most recent past" (74), which makes me wonder how different would the creation story if Eve stood tall in the garden, regardless of any man or serpent you know?

My world

Hey Alexa play "...&on" by Miss Badu
My name is Nevaeh Daniels and welcome to a glimpse of my world. I'm a cancer and I just turned 20y/o. I am an ethnic studies major and this is my last term at Lawrence. When I was younger, probably like middle school and high school I had a passion for drawing. After covid hit, my passion for art never went away but the effort to actually create anything definitely dimmed.  As I transitioned into college, especially a music school like Lawrence, I gained a newfound love for music. After growing my love for music, I tried making poetry which was fun for a while. But overall, I find myself just being an admirer of the arts/artists and an admirer of nature and landscapes etc.

Most of my time is spent working, but when I get an off day, I am always at home, trying new foods, in nature, or with my friends or family. When I am in nature I am constantly thinking or trying to understand some aspect of life." It is forcing us to reconsider and reevaluate practically every thought, every action, and every institution formerly taken for granted. Everything is changing- you, your family, your neighborhood, your education, your job, your government, your relation to "the others". And they're changing dramatically" (McLuhan's 8). I feel like this quote captures the way I illustrate change in my life. I am constantly trying to heal some part of me that was broken by society or love from the past, you feel me? But anywho
here are some foodie pictures:
